How to Look Chic on a Budget

Hi lovelies,
Trust you are doing well. Today post is fashion related. I don’t particularly consider myself to be a fashion blogger, but I don’t think my fashion sense sucks either. #Winks

Anyway I love to look good and presentable, and if you don’t mind me saying, I usually get compliments on how well I dress.
Overtime, I have met a number of people who think looking chic or good is expensive.

Newsflash, you can look chic on a budget (i.e., you don’t have to break a bank.)

I will be sharing 6 Tips on how to look chic on a budget.
Tip 1: Ignore Trends.
You see fashion trends are like a fast moving train, you can hardly catch up. You don’t necessarily have to go out of your way to dress like your fav. celebrity. Plus, a number of celebrities get paid to wear a particular fashion piece/pieces. Fashion should be comfortable and should make a statement about your personality. Trends are always revolving so as much as possible avoid trends.
Tip 2: Consider your shape and size
Yea, our body differs from each other, so that cloth A fits person B does not mean it will fit you. This is quite painful though but it is the reality. Personally, I avoid V-necked tops, it just don’t fit me.

Trust me, once you have figured out your body type and shaping, looking chic becomes a lot EASIER. Some fashion experts made a list of fruits and geometric shapes that can be used to categorize body shapes. They are:

Pear: Description- your hips are wider than your shoulders.
Inverted triangle: Description- Your shoulders and bust are wider than your hips
Rectangle: Description- Your shoulders, waist and hips are roughly the same size
Apple: Description- You have broad shoulders, a full waist and thinner legs.
Hour Glass: Description- Your shoulders and hips are roughly the same size, and you have a smaller, more defined waist.

Tip 3: Get the Basics
Some outfit and colours are a must in your wardrobe. Colours, like black and white. These two colours are bae. They will go on anything. Then outfits like, a white shirt, a blue denim, black skirt and trouser, black jacket and a things you can pair with other accessories and clothes to make them seem new and different every time you wear them. Don’t buy a shirt if it only goes/fits with one outfit except you have plenty though…#winks

For this one, I spiced up the black with the green accessories. The black shirt is thrifted and the white shoe. Others are not!

Tip 4: Get Creative…
Need I preach a sermon on this? (Chuckles). Just get creative with what you have. You can even spice up your dressing with a scarf or brooch, or even a jacket. You can never go wrong with altering and mending old clothes, trust me, It will be great fun (check out My Agbada Story where I #refurbished one of my father’s old clothes. Also, you can mix clothes and try out or spice up with accessories and scarf.

accessoring with a scarf
During one of my hosting duties, I spiced up my dress with a blue scarf. yesss, i host red carpets and also anchor events

Tip 5: Maximize the season.
Look for end of the season clearance sale. Also, look for before and after Christmas sales but be aware that even at a deep discount some clothes may not be worth the price. Know ahead of time how much you intend to spend on something and try to stick with it. I also sometimes buy thrift clothes (thrift clothes are the popular Akwube clothes. These days you don’t even have to bend down to select. lolz).

You see this shoe, I got it from a thrift store for less than a thousand naira. i just got creative with the whole combo,

Tip 6: Less is more.
When it comes to make up, sticking with the basics (foundation, powder, lip GLOSS and maybe some liner and eye shadow) always work except you going for an event/owambe though. A good quality foundation especially for a sensitive skin really contributes to a polished look. Bad foundation however makes the prettiest woman look trashy. Know what shade of makeup powder works for you as well as what colour of lipstick matches your complexion. For me my go to is red lipstick. Anticipate my blog post on my love for RED.
One bonus tip, I will give is this,

If you have low self confidence or esteem, even the most expensive of clothes would not make you feel chic.
Keep living fabulously inspired.
Much love.

  1. I’m turning 30 in a few weeks and have really been trying to pin down a good classic style. Learning that I was an inverted triangle seriously took so much of the guess work out of it for me, and I am glad you listed it on the body shapes because it is so frequently forgotten!
